"Would you like pot with that?"
I work at McDonald's, so first off I found this picture to be hilarious. Secondly, I want to say flat out that I DO believe that legalizing marijuana would have the potential to practically save our economy. Having said that, I in no way endorse the legalization of marijuana.
We are way to immature of a nation to be able to handle that kind of freedom, no offense. I understand that in legalizing it, there would be some sort of age restraint that came with. I assume it would be either 18- the age one can legally purchase tabacco products, or 21- the age one can legally purchase alcohol. But, as a high schooler, I can legitimately say that I know way too many adults that have the maturity level of a twelve year old. It is people that that who make me fear the idea of "adults" having the ability to legally possess pot.
I know people who strongly believe that they are able to operate a vehicle better while under the influence than not. That is just ridiculous. In legalizing marijuana, I believe that citizens would find themselves in circumstances like that a lot more often, which is dangerous in general.
In terms of being a good role model, what kind of child should be looking up to parents that are constantly high. I believe that in legalizing marijuana work ethic would extremely decrease. Also, I don't believe that dealers who have been selling pot illegally for years now should be able to make a fortune off of something that was once against the law. They are being rewarded for previously committing a crime.
Legalizing marijuana would in many ways benefit our country- especially economically speaking. But, we would find early on that with those benefits, our ideals of American society and the pride that comes with it would severely suffer.
WAKE THE **** UP!
WARNING: CONTENTS OF VIDEO ARE SLIGHTY INAPPROPRIATE!!! (Sorry)
I know this video is pretty controversial and possibly slightly immature, but I think the message being conveyed overall is worth the vulgarity...and plus it's entertaining.
The ideas in the video seen in Romney's campaign have the ability to drastically change the country we live in if he is voted into office. I think the main point Samuel L. Jackson is making by yelling...forcefully...at all of the members of that family is that if they don't do their part in stopping Romney from winning, no one else will either. It is our job as American voters to elect the best possible leader for our country. In my opinion, that leader is Barack Obama.
I realize that not everyone is going to agree with me that Obama is the future, but I think that just adds to this argument. Whether someone agrees with the view points of Romney or Obama, nothing is going to change unless they vote for them. Im 18 years old, and I know that the majority of my friends who are old enough to vote are not going to. This is either because they are too lazy or simply because they don't know enough about politics to make a decision. That is unacceptable.
People nowadays like to think that if they stay away from politics, politics will stay away from them. But, that's NOT true. Everything about the upcoming election is going to affect every American's life, whether it be by way of social issues or economic. Money- ever heard of it? The amount you find in your wallet could change drastically if unemplyment rates begin to once again increase. That's something to worry about! Or taxes? Healthcare? Retirement? Gay marriage? Abortion rights? Really? None of those apply to you? Good joke.
Republican Speaks In Favor Of Gay Marriage
When I was a sophomore in high school, my best friend was a lesbian. No, this isn't going to be some sort of story of how I became a lesbian or anything like that, I'm just trying to give some prespective. My friend and I have since have grown apart. I've spoken to her in months, I guess that's just high school thing. But, the second I saw this video I sent it to her.
In my opinion, it is ridiculous that gay rights is even an issue right now. If you watch the video, you'll hear Representative Walsh make the connection between gay rights and both the rights of women and citizens of different "race or creed". The majority of the speech tugs at the emotional/moral strings of the audience, but by making this connection she enhances her argument by way of logic. She turns the already controversial issue into a matter solely of what is fair and what is right.
Putting logic aside, I am unable to comprehend the morality of those not in favor of legalizing gay marrige. What gives them the right to decide who can and cannot wed? My favorite quote from the entire speech is when Representative Walsh asks, "How could I deny anyone the right to have that incredible bond with another individual in life? To me it seems almost cruel." Almost cruel?! It's inhumane. The story she tells of the love she felt and still feels for her husband makes the idea of love so relatable. I'm willing to bet that almost everyone in that room, if not everyone, felt something for her when she choked up while speaking of it. But, I'm also willing to bet that when she brought up the love between her daughter and her partner, some connections were lost. That's what bothers me. People need to wake up and see what's really going on in the world. They need to see that without change, there is no progress.
